Summer is here and that means one thing: road trip season! Whether you’re planning a staycation to the Seattle area or heading elsewhere, gas isn’t cheap. Fortunately, there are a variety of things you can do to save money at the pump.
Use an app. Apps like GasBuddy, Waze, Gas Guru, and the AAA TripTik planner are specifically designed to give motorists real-time updates on affordable gas prices in their area. We recommend downloading two or more and then alternating between them. Sure, it takes a little bit of extra research and effort, but the rewards are worth it.
Invest in regular maintenance. A car that’s maintained and well cared for is also more efficient. Invest in an oil change every 3,000-5,000 miles, keep the radiator fluid at adequate levels, and make sure your battery doesn’t corrode. Little things like these help your engine run more efficiently, which in turn, burns less gas.
Accelerate slowly. Take the metal off the pedal and gently accelerate instead. If you can keep your car under 2,000 RPM after stopping, you’ll burn significantly less gas. Easing up on the accelerator is also good for your engine and will keep your pistons and other components running smoothly for years to come.
